Marvel's British Reprints

For those readers who don't get enough of my musings here (all three of you) I would like to direct you to one of my favorite Bloggers, a gentleman whose posts are often fascinating, illuminating and have a touch of melancholy for a time long gone.

"Kid" Robson was kind enough to allow me to write a Guest Blog, so I thought I'd reminisce about my discovery and interest in Marvel's UK line. I hope you'll pop over there and not only read my post, but wander around the many corners of the comics world that Kid writes about with great passion and enthusiasm.

  1. You talk as if I was doing you a favour, Nick. Actually it was the other way 'round. Thanks again for all the time and trouble you went to in making my blog worth reading with your post.

  2. Kid,

Your blog is ALWAYS worth reading, and it was a pleasure to be represented on such a fine blog.

  3. I learned from Kid that MARVEL published new Hulk stories in the UK that were not published here. Amazon announced that last summer a book with those stories would be coming out, but it appears to be cancelled. I wonder if it is available through Amazon UK.

A problem I have with this site is that it keeps asking me to prove I am not a robot, but you and Mike disclosed my secret that I am a LMD!

  4. Barry, when I get a chance, I'll scan and email you a few of those Hulk stories. Failing that, I'll do a blog post about them. Or I might even do both. Wonder what happened to that book? I'll see if I can find out.

  6. Great news! Speaking of the Hulk, I wish they would publish the comic strips from the late 1970's produced mainly by Larry Lieber, with assistance from folks like Rich Buckler. Larry told me he particularly emjoyed that assigmment and was complimented by Stan himself.

  7. I don't remember them, Nick. Could it be newspaper strips as opposed to comics? And do you mean for the U.K.? I know he did covers, but I don't remember any strips by him in British comics. (Ones produced for British comics I mean, not just reprinted.) It's possible 'though - perhaps I just wasn't paying attention.

  8. Thanks Kid. It was cancelled last October by Amazon, but now it is up again as a new project, and says "This title will be released on July 9, 2013." in the US too!

    Nick I just pre-ordered it

  9. Hi Kid,

I'm sorry I didn't specify that it was a comic strip that appeared in US newspapers. the strip was based more on the then current TV show than the comic, but it was a nice strip. Here are two examples, one by Buckler and one by Lieber:

  10. Nick,
Perhaps some day Keith Pollard's original art for the cover of Marvel Super-Heroes #31 will surface? Perhaps some day Tony Isabella will write about what he sent to Marvel UK for that issue? Perhaps that day we'll learn how the Cat ended up in a green costume on the cover?
    Thanks!
