I'll take it over the vitriol that appears elsewhere, though! It's great to have discussions about comics, and hopefully discover new things about them. That's what keeps it exciting to me.Nick Caputohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05096100224095280865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-80581293180491263382012-05-31T17:13:00.703-04:002012-05-31T17:13:00.703-04:00Of course we joke about all this. But as Don, Nick, the Kid and I know it is wonderful when we can share our resources to get the best information we can share with others.

There are so many people who "hoard" their information. But I have been lucky enough to meet some very generous people. Nick and I have worked very hard and long not just to collect articles and interviews but to make it easy for us to get to information.

A new member of "the team" The Kid was generous in sharing information with me. I guess we're co-creators (or co-archivists) and can argue about that in a decade or two!

In the old days I would have had to spend hours searching through my collection of books and fanzines, now, thanks to your book, everthing is easy to find and I can cut and paste (even though when I do that the post sometimes comes out all mixed up and I have to fix it again).Nick Caputohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05096100224095280865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-87532293353921150742012-05-31T13:48:46.091-04:002012-05-31T13:48:46.091-04:00Great article Nick, where did you get those quotes...Great article Nick, where did you get those quotes! I love them!! I couldn't have done a better job myself.

Writers like Bernstein and Arnold Drake were plot oriented and had difficulty writing for Marvel whose characters, well, were character oriented. Their dialogue told what the characters were doing, Stan's told what the characters were thinking and who they are. Stan needed writers who didn't need much editing or rewriting, he had enough on his plate. These writers didn't fill the billBarry Pearlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03833042323353543770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-68576475392354043332012-05-31T11:53:11.036-04:002012-05-31T11:53:11.036-04:00What a fantastic piece, Nick! Whatever the reason, it is clear that Lee made a decision to control all the superhero characters, which were becoming recognized as the company bread and butter.

I also wonder if Bernstein may have gotten the job through Kirby, since they knew each other at DC, and Kirby apparently helped Bernstein out with plots (supposedly Mentallo, a Superman villain).

I'm glad you like the new look. I've been learning how to make the site more attractive through trial and error.Nick Caputohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05096100224095280865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-32990330356704920442012-05-27T13:44:14.969-04:002012-05-27T13:44:14.969-04:00I disagree with Bill, I think.
