I once showed Arnold Drake a page by his good friend Luis Dominguez, and he said, "That doesn't look anything like Luis' work!" --but there was Luis' signature, unmistakably.

That GHOSTLY TALES #76 reminds me of either Gray Morrow... or Rich Buckler. Hard to tell.

Over at my blog, I've got a pile of Frank Bolle art posted. I've not only done restorations of every single TIM HOLT / RED MASK cover, but his 20-year run of "Stories From The Bible" from BOY'S LIFE magazine (1979-1999)!Henry R. Although I most enjoy this period of Ditko's art there are still some gems to be uncovered next time.

As far as Rudy Palais I don't think so. I've looked at his art in this era and it doesn't really match up. This looks more like one of the Spanish artists, although I couldn't quite pick out who. I originally thought it was Garcia Lopez, but after seeing a story signed by him in the next issue I realized it wasn't him.Nick Caputohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05096100224095280865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-63813743952220276112015-01-05T19:02:56.669-05:002015-01-05T19:02:56.669-05:00Oh, and you nailed the number one virtue of Charlt...Oh, and you nailed the number one virtue of Charlton:

"Unlike some comic book companies Charlton featured a potpourri of divergent styles, with no attempt at conforming to a standard presentation."

Re "A Deadly Guest," how about Rudy Palais? His CI and Charlton faces are identical.

Looking at the Joe Staton panels, I thought, "This isn't Staton--it's Charles Nicholas." So I'm relieved to find that Nicholas was the inker! Speaking of Nicholas, did you know he illustrated a Pendulum Press comic adaptation of "Lost Horizon"? I sure didn't--just ordered a copy from eBay.

The Ditko art is great, though my favorite Charlton Ditko is his 1976-era material, which seems crazier and less contained, as if he were working faster (?). It was his "Dr. Graves" #58 cover that got me buying Charltons in the the late '70s, after looking at several in the local bookstore comic rack and going, "What the...?" Their weirdness quickly switched from a deterrent to an attraction.Lee Hartsfeldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15378950382643333359noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-30575546473629233322015-01-02T17:50:42.372-05:002015-01-02T17:50:42.372-05:00Doccomix,

I try to add a variety of images, particularly of artists that are not given the spotlight, so I'm glad you're enjoying the look back.

Nick Caputohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05096100224095280865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-11524588042926226362015-01-02T17:48:51.004-05:002015-01-02T17:48:51.004-05:00Bill,

I've appreciated your work for many years dating back to the Badger and fondly recall your excellent inking over Ditko on Phantom 2040.

I'm always open to suggestions, corrections and improvements. I'm not a whiz at Photoshop but have learned a little over the years, though not enough. I agree that some images are over saturated, so I'll try to follow your suggestion.

I hope you'll be around for the final chapter on Ghostly Tales. Would have been nice to see those skills on further Dr. Strange stories.

I hope you don't mind a comment on your scans (assuming their yours). I'm sure you're trying to keep the line work strong, but that also can up the color to being a little over saturated. If you have access to Photoshop, I found a good way to scan old comics is that after your initial scan translate it to CMYK. Then you can strengthen the black channel alone and leave the color as is. Then change back to RGB before posting.Bill Reinholdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06347794773657949816noreply@blogger.com
