I'm not certain which story you are referring to since there were so many Charlton Hot Rod titles but here are two suggestions. You can go to the Grand Comic Book Database, which has practically every comic book listed and type in the story title (if that is correct) in the search engine. https://www.comics.org/

The other suggestion is to join the Charlton Arrow Facebook page. Lots of fans there and someone might recall the story you are looking for.
Nick Caputohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05096100224095280865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-84477910511041956082017-09-19T17:01:51.186-04:002017-09-19T17:01:51.186-04:00Nick I also would like to add that I have really e...Nick I also would like to add that I have really enjoyed reading you blog now that I have found it - its awesome!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01492642819915338113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-132729827718670472017-09-19T16:59:56.144-04:002017-09-19T16:59:56.144-04:00I found this old blog during a search I am doing a...I found this old blog during a search I am doing and really enjoyed reading it. I don't know if you will get this comment as it is an old post, but with your knowledge of old Charlton Car books I am hoping you can help. I am looking for a book that you might have knowledge of. I know it was Charlton car book. I know it was published in 1967,68,69 or 70. It had a story called "FAKE OUT" or something similar, about a guy and his girlfriend who get beat in a race by some muscle car, then the guy soups up his car but leaves it looking the same and ends up beating the "bad guy" who previously beat him. If you have knowledge of this book I would love any information on it that would help me find and purchase it! Thank you for your time and have a great day!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01492642819915338113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-36295762004288437422013-09-04T01:43:36.125-04:002013-09-04T01:43:36.125-04:00Terrific! The zip contains "Last Will and Testament" from Haunted No. 29 (sorry about not including # and year earlier!), plus, for comparison, Molno's "Funeral Wreath" from Many Ghosts No. 59 (same year, 1976). The latter has been definitely i.d.'d as Molno, and the former, as you know, is still without a GCD I.D. I'm almost positive it's Bill.

Thanks in advance for your time and input. Thank you kindly for your words of praise...Hi Lee,

Thank you kindly for your words of praise. they are greatly appreciated. I may have been studying comics longer than you, but I'm still learning and appreciating the many storytellers that worked in obscurity for publishers such as Charlton.

I've grown to appreciate Molno as well. He has a precise style and has produced some very interesting work. He gets props because he HAS a style, which is better than many who copy others and have no personality. I don't have that issue of Haunted that you mention, and the GCD doesn't have an id, but its possible he was still working for Charlton. Does anyone else know if Molno drew that story?

BTW, here is a link to Molno's biblio for the Who's Who:

http://www.bailsprojects.com/whoswho.aspx

I enjoyed your input and hoe you join in with more thoughts in the future.

Nick Nick Caputohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05096100224095280865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-70162948893243482012013-08-30T16:19:41.117-04:002013-08-30T16:19:41.117-04:00Late praise for your wonderful piece! I'm a l...Late praise for your wonderful piece! I'm a long-time Charlton fan but new to comic scholarship (I'm just now figuring out the difference between the penciling and inking process, for instance). You described precisely what I love best about Charltons--the diversity of art styles, the general absence of a standard company/brand look. (Yet, at the same time, they stand out as a brand from others. Figure that.)

Thanks to the hard work of comic scholars like yourself, i'm able to put a name to some of the art I grew up with, and, believe it or not, Bill Molno is fast becoming a favorite. At its worst, his work gave new meaning to "pedestrian;" at its best, it bordered on superb. I wish he'd done more work for the Charlton horror titles in the '70s and late '60s, since he did such exception work in that regard (I'm thinking, "Funeral Wreath" and the marvelous, Ditkoesque "Dread Dimensions"). His images flow nicely--kind of a cross between the stiff (but cool) drawings of Charles Nicholas and the free-wheeling compositions of Ditko.

Is it possible that Molno was the artist on one of my favorite Haunted stories, "The Last Will and Testament"? The panels seem to scream Molno, especially the crunched male faces and the elegant, woodcut-style mansion.

Anyway, thanks again. Yours in Charlton, Lee.

Lee Hartsfeldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15378950382643333359noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-30019010146093971832013-01-18T13:55:12.756-05:002013-01-18T13:55:12.756-05:00Thanks Martin! As you know, il ikew digging deep into a subject and hopefully have done that from time to time here.

My blog is open to all sorts of topics, and while I may "know" more about Marvel than other companies there is so much of interest to analyze that I could never just narrow it down to Marvel. You call it “ Marvel Mysteries and Comic Minutiae.”

Frist, how many posts have you had just on Marvel? Your blog is much more universal than that. It is false advertising. I want my money back.

Second, the OED defines Minutiae as “a small or trivial matter or object. Usually pl.” In the Universe of comics nothing you have brought up has been trivial, except maybe the post on Thursday, October 6, 2011. These are important matters for comic book fans, we don’t want to see works by Charlton, or Bob’s Big Boy forgotten.

So you need to change the name of your blog. Let’s See, “Nick’s Pearls of Comic Book Wisdom” sound nice. Or “Sequential Punch?” Or “20th Century Nicky Boy?” How about “Not Just Marvel and Certainly not Minutiae.”

Just one more thing: Happy Birthday, Nick!
Barry Pearlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03833042323353543770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2089733759263636022.post-13276074672929753232013-01-11T12:20:56.049-05:002013-01-11T12:20:56.049-05:00Mark,
